In a new national poll, nearly 9 in 10 voters support Congress passing legislation that would protect patients from surprise medical bills. More than three-quarters (79%) support policy solutions that would ban all providers from sending a surprise bill and align out-of-network reimbursement with payments other doctors have negotiated with health insurance providers.

So what is Congress waiting for? With millions of Americans facing extreme charges from out-of-network providers and private equity firms, there is a bipartisan solution on the table that would safeguard patients and lower health care costs for families. By establishing fair, market-based payments for out-of-network care, Congress can stop one of the worst affordability crises in our health system today. Inaction shouldn’t be an option.
