Ending Surprise Medical Bills
Millions of Americans had faced the financial burden of surprise medical bills. Today, consumers are protected from these unfair charges, and it’s now more important than ever to make sure these consumer protections remain in place.
Our Mission
Members of the Coalition Against Surprise Medical Billing, which represent leading employer groups, unions, health insurance providers and the tens of millions of people they employ and serve each day, support comprehensive protections against surprise medical bills, including:
-
- Banning out-of-network providers from sending surprise medical bills to patients.
- Maintaining fair and market-based payments for out-of-network care.
- Reducing consumers’ health insurance premiums and taxpayers’ costs by avoiding an arbitration process that adds unnecessary cost, delay and bureaucracy to the health system.
The Problem
Surprise medical billing represented one of the most pressing affordability challenges facing consumers and the country. Millions of patients faced surprise medical bills they did not expect at prices they could not afford.
Role of Private Equity
The Solution
Congress took an important first step to protect patients from surprise bills with the passage of the No Surprises Act. These bipartisan reforms will ban surprise medical bills, help lower premiums for consumers and employers and save taxpayers more than $17 billion over the next decade.
